New Protection for Consumers
May 2008
The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 came into force today following an EU directive which requires all businesses to treat customers fairly.
This is the biggest shake-up of consumer law for forty years and looks to close loopholes and tighten controls on rogue traders from fortune tellers to double-glazing salesmen.
The Regulations which will be enforced by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and Trading Standards ban 31 types of unfair sales practices.
These Regulations will offer increased protection to consumers who undertake building works and all domestic builders will have to comply with new laws.
